Tear Trough – SkinHD

What are Tear Troughs?

Tear trough is the crease between your lower eyelid and cheek area, often referred to as the under eye or the eye bags. It can sometimes appear as dark or shadowy. This can be naturally occurring or due to age, as the skin on the eye socket area becomes thinner – revealing the ligament underneath.

Is Tear Trough filler right for me?

If you have concerns regarding,

  • Dark under eye bags
  • Hollow/deep set eyes
  • Overall tired appearance

then, Tear trough filler may be a good treatment for you to consider.

So, how does the treatment work?

Tear trough filler works by injecting dermal filler beneath the skin under the eye, which causes the soft tissue to lift. This results in the tear trough area appearing less shallow/hollow. As with most dermal fillers, you will be able to see a difference immediately after treatment.

What product do we use in the procedure?

At SkinHD, we use Juvederm Volbella – which is a hyaluronic acid based filler with a built in anaesthetic called lidocaine.

Why do we use this particular product?

We opt to use Juvederm Volbella as it has a low molecular weight. This means it attracts less water – which helps to avoid puffiness and potential swelling.

What happens during a treatment?

Before your treatment, we will invite you in for a free online consultation (via Zoom or Whatsapp Video) to discuss if the treatment is suitable for you, and if we can achieve the results you are looking for with this treatment.

If you decide to go ahead, we will then get you booked in for your actual treatment!

We will apply an ice pack and numbing cream to the area which contains lidocaine. The product itself also contains lidocaine and is injected with a hypodermic needle to ensure minimum discomfort.

The treatment time usually lasts 40 minutes.

You will see some immediate signs of improvement, but some swelling may also be apparent. The best results of the treatment will be seen within a couple of weeks of the treatment, after the product has fully settled and integrated.

How long do Tear Trough fillers last?

This treatment usually lasts between 12-18 months. However, with all dermal fillers – the results can vary with each person.

How much does it cost?

1ml Injection of Juvederm Volbella dermal filler: £350
Additional syringe costs: £199

After Care Advice

  • Immediately after the treatment, avoid touching the area or applying make up for at least 2 hours, to let the skin form a protective barrier over the injection site and avoid infection.
  • Avoid  heavy exercise and extreme heat for at least 48 hours after the treatment (saunas/steam room/sunbed etc)
  • Avoid dental procedures or making exaggerated mouth movements for 2 weeks after the treatment
  • Apply an ice pack to help with any swelling or discomfort, but avoid applying too much pressure.

It is normal to feel lumps or areas that are more firm than others in the first couple of weeks after treatment. This will settle! If you do get any swelling/puffiness or lumps after the treatment, we would advise to massage from inside corner of eyes near bridge of nose to outside of eye with some moisturiser (to prevent friction). Massage firmly outwards for 5-10 minutes in the morning and evening.
